Xian Big Wild Goose Pagoda
Xian is an
ancient city in China and there are many wonderful and famous spots for you
during your Xian tour. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is one of the famous spots and well
known in home and abroad. The simple and magnificent Big Wild Goose Pagoda is located
in Ci'en Temple which is located on south of the Yanta Road in south of the
ancient Xian city. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is the most famous ancient pagoda in
Xian now and it is the symbol of the ancient city. In the center of the city
emblem, there is the magnificent Tang famous ancient pagoda.
The Big
Wild Goose Pagoda has the full name of Ci'en Temple Big Wild Goose Pagoda. It was started
to be built in 652. The pavilion style brick pagoda use rubbed brick work which
is the Chinese special traditional architectural art style.
According
to the record, the Ci'en Temple was built by Tang Gaozong Li Zhi for his mother
to pray for luck. The north side faces to the Hanyuan Hall in Daming Palace.
Near the temple, there is Qujiang Pool, apricot garden and Leyou Garden. The
scenery here is charming and beautiful. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda was built by the
first Buddhist abbot—Xuanzang. He brought a large numbers of sutra, figures of Buddha
and Buddhist relics from Indian. The pagoda was built to sacrifice and store them.
The Big
Wild Goose Pagoda is pavilion style brick pagoda. It is 64.517 meters high and 25
meters long in each side. The pagoda body is square pyramid which sits on the
4.2 meters high brick platform. The black bricks build the pagoda body. The
structure is vigorous. The external is wood structure. The pagoda becomes small
and small from the down to the top. The whole building has grand momentum,
simple and vigorous sculpture and coordinating proportion. It is the masterwork
in Tang dynasty. Many famous poets climbed the pagoda and left famous poems
here.
